Description
Capsules of Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) with fresh freeze-dried botanical ingredients.
It is a plant typical of Ayurvedic medicine rich in highly bioactive substances.
In traditional Eastern medicines, it has always been used as an adaptogen in stressful situations, as it has a calming effect on the nervous system.
It is also used as a remedy for sleep disorders and as a mood stabilizer. The main compounds are withanolides and withanosides, which are steroidal lactones (saponins).
Normally, in the roots of Withania, they are present in glycosylated form, which reduces absorption, as it is necessary to eliminate the sugary part of the molecule in the intestine to release the aglycone (the active molecule).
The advantage of fermentation (fermanolide) is that it eliminates (through pretreatment with lactobacillus plantarum) the glycosidic component, thus providing withanolides and withanosides already in their active form.
This enhances the absorption and bioavailability of the steroidal lactones, thus increasing efficacy.
Some trials have demonstrated the usefulness of Ashwagandha in improving cognitive functions and memory.
It can be used as support for the thyroid in individuals with thyroid functional deficiency.
