Thanks to its active ingredients, the plant, in addition to having a diaphoretic and antispasmodic action, also seems to have a vasodilatory action, accompanied by a negative inotropic action on the heart and this would lead to the use of European Tilia as an adjuvant in the treatment of hypertension, because it is able to cause a decrease in blood pressure thanks to vasodilation and a decrease in cardiac tone (Inverni, Fitoterapia).
Components
The European Tilia contains, in the flowers with the bract, an essential oil largely constituted by an aliphatic sesquiterpene alcohol, called farnesol. The drug also contains some flavonoid compounds (quercetin, tiliroside, tilianin).
