TEST STRIPS

Description
System for self-monitoring of blood glucose.
The test strips are intended for use with the BGStar, iBGStar and MyStar family of blood glucose meters for the quantitative determination of blood glucose in capillary whole blood.
The BGStar strip contains the enzyme glucose oxidase (GOx) with a chemical redox mediator that produces an electrochemical signal proportional to the glucose concentration in the blood sample. The blood glucose meter measures this signal, using dynamic electrochemistry to correct for common analytical interferences, such as hematocrit.

How to use
Checking the performance of test strips with the meter using BGStar control solution :
BGStar Normal and High Control Solution contains a specific amount of glucose that reacts with BGStar test strips along with BGStar and iBGStar or MyStar family blood glucose meters to ensure they work properly together.
Control solution tests should be performed when:
- you are using the tool for the first time;
- you suspect that the meter or test strips are not working properly;
- you suspect that the test results are inaccurate;
- the instrument has been dropped, damaged or has come into contact with liquids;
- you are advised to do so by your doctor.

If your control solution test results are outside the acceptable range printed on the BGStar test strip vial for your control solution (normal or high), repeat the test. One or more of the following factors may cause results outside the established range:
- expired or defective control solution;
- expired or defective test strip;
- error while running the test;
- diluted control solution;
- instrument malfunction;
- control solution testing performed outside the system operating temperature range of 10°C to 40°C;
- the control solution bottle is not shaken vigorously before use;
- the first drop of control solution is not discarded and the tip of the bottle is not cleaned.
If the meter continues to give results outside the appropriate acceptable range printed on the BGStar test strip vial, the test strip and meter may not be working properly. If this occurs, do not use the system and contact your distributor.

Test execution procedure
To ensure accurate results, wash your hands with soap and water. Make sure there is no grease, oil or lotion on the sampling area. Dry your hands thoroughly.
Remove the lancing device cap, insert a new lancet and pull off the lancet cap. Replace the lancing device cap if sampling from the fingertips, set the puncture depth level and arm the lever.
Insert a new test strip. Prick your fingertip, palm (at the base of the thumb), or forearm. Check your meter's user manual to see if alternate sampling is permitted.
When the meter displays the blood drop symbol, touch the tip of the BGStar test strip to the blood sample.
When the blood glucose test result complete with time and date appears on the display, the test is finished and the result is saved in memory.
Remove the used test strip from the meter and dispose of it properly. The meter will automatically deactivate.
Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water after handling the blood glucose meter, lancing device, and test strips.

Meaning of test results
- Results below 20 mg/dL: If your test result is below 20 mg/dL, a message will appear on the meter display indicating hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). See your user manual for more details. It is recommended that you test again immediately. If you get a result below 20 mg/dL again, follow the treatment plan recommended by your healthcare professional or contact your healthcare professional immediately.

- Results above 600 mg/dL: If your test result is above 600 mg/dL, a message will appear on the meter display indicating hyperglycemia (high blood sugar). See your user manual for more details. It is recommended that you test again immediately. If you get a result above 600 mg/dL again, follow your healthcare professional's advice to treat your hyperglycemia. You may want to check your ketone levels.

The normal fasting blood glucose range for an adult without diabetes is 70-99 mg/dL.
Always consult your doctor for information on acceptable ranges recommended for your patient.

Warnings
Keep the test strips and the test strip bottle out of the reach of children. Test strips can be dangerous if swallowed. The bottle contains drying agents that may be dangerous if inhaled or swallowed and may cause eye and skin irritation.
Test strips are for single use only. Do not reuse. Dispose of used test strips properly.
If a test strip does not absorb the blood sample, contact the distributor.
Please read the user manual provided with your BGStar, iBGStar or MyStar family meters carefully before using BGStar test strips.
The blood glucose meter and lancing device are for use by one patient only. Do not share with anyone, including family members. Do not use on multiple patients.
All parts of the system have the potential to transmit infectious diseases, even if they are disinfected. Refer to the BGStar, iBGStar, and MyStar family meter user manual for instructions on disinfecting the meter.
To ensure accurate results, wash your hands and the collection area with soap and warm water before testing. Dry thoroughly. Unclean hands and collection areas may cause inaccurate results. Make sure there is no grease, oil, or lotion on the collection area.
Use lancets only once. Do not use a lancing device or a lancet that has already been used by someone else.
In case of patients in shock or individuals with severe hypotension, the instrument may give inaccurate results. In case of individuals with hyperglycemic/hyperosmolar state, with or without ketosis, the instrument may give inaccurate results of less than average value. Patients in critical condition should not be tested using a blood glucose meter.
Severe dehydration and excessive fluid loss can cause inaccurate results. If you suspect severe dehydration, consult your doctor immediately.
The instrument may give inaccurate results in patients receiving oxygen therapy.
Results below 70 mg/dL may indicate low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). Results above 240 mg/dL may indicate high blood sugar (hyperglycemia). You may want to check your ketone levels.
If you get a result below 70 mg/dL or above 240 mg/dL and there are no symptoms of hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia, repeat the test. If you have symptoms or continue to get a result below 70 mg/dL or above 240 mg/dL, follow the treatment plan recommended by your healthcare provider or contact your healthcare provider immediately.
If you experience symptoms that conflict with the results of your blood glucose test performed following all the instructions in the user manual provided with your BGStar, iBGStar or MyStar family of meters, follow the advice of your healthcare professional or contact your healthcare professional immediately.
Do not use expired or damaged test strips, as this may cause inaccurate results.
Handle BGStar test strips gently with clean, dry hands when removing them from the vial or inserting them into the meter.
Store test strips only in their original bottle; never store them in another bottle, another container, or outside the bottle. Close the bottle cap immediately and tightly after removing a test strip from the bottle.
Do not bend, cut or alter BGStar test strips.
Place the sampling area tip of the BGStar test strip in contact with fresh capillary blood or control solution only.

Conservation
Store the BGStar test strip bottle in a cool, dry place between 8°C and 30°C. Use BGStar test strips only at a system operating temperature between 10°C and 40°C. Keep away from direct sunlight and heat.
