indicated for the systemic prophylaxis of dental caries. If the preventive method is implemented early, fluoride acts on developing teeth, depositing in the deeper layers of the enamel in the form of fluorapatite crystals and making its structure more resistant to acids. Carious lesions, in fact, consist of the destruction of hard dental tissues resulting from a demineralization process promoted by acids produced by certain plaque microorganisms. Fluoride also has a direct action against plaque bacteria. This action not only leads to a reduction in plaque accumulation by reducing the production of polysaccharides necessary for bacterial growth, but also has an inhibitory action on the production of acids responsible for demineralization processes.

Directions for use:
if the water used contains less than 0.3 mg/liter of fluoride (the most common mineral waters), the recommended intake is:
from 2 weeks to 2 years: 8 drops (0.25 mg of F- ions) per day;
from 2 to 4 years: 16 drops (0.50 mg of F- ions) per day.

Features:
It has a good taste thanks to sweetening with xylitol, a non-cariogenic sugar, and is perfectly miscible in water, milk, or other foods or liquids. However, for better fluoride absorption, it is preferable not to dissolve NAF drops in milk.

Warnings:
If supplementary fluoride intake is considered, the quantities of fluorides ingested through other sources should be taken into account to avoid an overdose. The main manifestation of chronic ingestion of excessive amounts of fluoride is the formation of spots on tooth enamel. Symptoms of acute overdose (abdominal pain, vomiting, and diarrhea) occur after ingesting more than 100 mg of fluoride ions. This corresponds approximately to more than 10 vials of NAF drops.
