Description
Sterile aqueous hydrogel containing: polyvinyl alcohol, with lubricating, moisturizing, viscoelastic, mucoadhesive, and protective properties; dexpanthenol, a member of the B group vitamins, a homologue of pantothenic acid, a vitamin-based tissue nutrient and an epithelium-protective agent; hexamidine disethionate, polyhexanide hydrochloride, and disodium edetate (antiseptics), and other excipients, for use on ocular tissues by instillation.
It is indicated for corneal protection and lubrication or in cases of alteration of the ocular surface and instability of the tear film and in the soothing treatment of symptoms related to inflammatory diseases, including infectious ones, before and after surgical procedures (e.g. intravitreal injections), even in cases of ocular trauma after the use of contact lenses, including patients with recurrent eye infections.
The presence of antiseptics in the formulation guarantees the sterility of the ophthalmic solution after the first opening of the bottle and is useful in protecting the ocular tissues from irritation and possible environmental sepsis.
In the device, the concentration of polyvinyl alcohol (1.25%) has been specifically studied to ensure that the hydrogel obtained has rheological characteristics similar to those of tear fluid and an effective adhesive property on the ocular mucous membranes with a lubricating, hydrating and protective effect, without causing visual blurring.
This hydrogel also ensures a prolonged effect of the components on the ocular mucous membranes, promoting their nutritional-vitamin efficacy, which aids re-epithelialization.
The methylsulfonylmethane present among the excipients of the formulation, a substance containing biologically active sulfur, does not have any specific pharmacological action, but rather facilitates the absorption of dexpanthenol, thanks to an activation of cellular permeability.
KERATOSEPT PRO is an aqueous colloidal liquid characterised by the following chemical-physical properties: it is perfectly transparent and colourless; it is miscible with tear fluid in all proportions; it has pH, viscosity and osmolarity values that are perfectly compatible with ocular tissues and tear fluid and therefore has a high degree of tolerability.
How to use
Detach a single-dose vial from the strip, shake the nozzle to release the liquid and open the single-dose vial by rotating the flap and pulling at the same time.
Then turn the bottle upside down and instill 1-2 drops of the solution in the device into the lower conjunctival sac of the eye, applying light pressure on the body of the bottle.
It is advisable to repeat the operation 2-3 or more times a day when necessary, with the possibility of using the same single-dose vial, carefully resealed, over the course of 24 hours.
Components
Hexamidine disethionate 0.050%, polyhexanide hydrochloride 0.0001%, disodium edetate, dexpanthenol 5%, polyvinyl alcohol 1.25%, methylsulfonylmethane, disodium phosphate, potassium phosphate monobasic, purified water.
Warnings
Due to the absence of quaternary ammonium salts, the device can also be used by wearers of soft and rigid contact lenses.
- Do not touch your eye with the dropper tip.
- Do not use if you have an active eye infection.
- Do not use at the same time as other eye drops.
- Do not use in case of known incompatibility with any component of the preparation.
- Do not use the product after the expiry date indicated on the package.
- Do not use if the packaging is damaged.
- Use as directed.
- Do not use the product for more than 10 consecutive days.
- The device must be used within 24 hours of first opening.
Keep out of the reach and sight of children.
