Recent biological research has shown that in the process of bone calcification, the contribution of silicon is important, as well as that of calcium, fluoride and phosphorus; indeed, it has been shown that the demineralization process is closely linked to the decrease in silicon, while the decrease in calcium and phosphorus occurs at a later stage. Technically, silicon is located in the osteoblast, a cell found in the bone tissue in formation and stimulates the construction of bone, promoting the deposition of calcium in the active sites of calcification. It also plays an important role in maintaining the elasticity of tendons, cartilage and arterial walls. Particular bone anomalies seem to derive from an imbalance in the Ca-Si ratio. The main action of horsetail, thanks to its high silicon content, is aimed at the trophism of the connective tissue as well as the well-being of nails and hair. On a lesser scale, horsetail also has a draining effect on body fluids (promoting the elimination of waste products).
