The healing properties of this water have been known for decades and are used in various upper and lower respiratory tract conditions. A "strong" sulphurous thermal water due to its high content of hydrogen sulphide (over 100 mg/litre), a component with favourable effects both on the mucus of the airways (mucolytic and mucoregulatory effect) and on cells (stimulation of regeneration). These effects, together with the more general vasodilatory and antioxidant effects typical of sulphurous water, determine an important cytoprotective action and increase in the mechanical and biological defences of the respiratory tract.
The other main components of Tabiano water (sulphates, calcium and magnesium in particular) modulate and sometimes enhance these actions, thus contributing to the healing efficacy in various chronic and recurring conditions of the upper airways (rhinitis, sinusitis, pharyngo-laryngitis and otitis) and lower airways (catarrhal and obstructive bronchitis, bronchiectasis, etc.).
